eden kite festival
The Eden Kite Festival will take place on Saturday 14 December at Sasol Highway Garage N2 in George and on Sunday 15 December and Monday 16 December at the Knysna High Sports Field. Last year the festival attracted over 2500 visitors and provided loads of family fun for families near and far. This year the festival expands from 2 to 3 days and is in peak season so we expect more than 5 000 people. International and professional Kiters have offered their support again this year and will be involved in kite-making workshops and kite-flying displays.
Most people in South Africa think of kites either as children’s toys or for kite-surfers, but there are many countries with hundreds of years of kite history built into their cultures. At our kite festival we’ll have a range of modern and traditional kites. Funds raised from the festival will 'grow' the Masithandane Bursary Fund for our children's long term benefit. A real need in Sedgefield is to assist families with transport costs to school, school fees, uniforms and toiletries for teens. There is no public transport system or High School in the area. Masithandane provides a transport system to both George and Knysna for high school learners from Sedgefield.
In addition, some of the funds will go towards Care & Respite services offered at our HUG (House Under Grace) Care & Respite Centre. The need for the Centre was identified in 2008 and this was completed just in time to offer care and respite to victims of the Knysna Fires.
Vendors are invited to have a stall at this wonderful event. We would love to have your support this year as we grow this festival into a bigger, better event every year.
